McDaniel Wins the SLLMS Season Finale - 11/23/10
Mooresville, N.C. - 16-year-old Austin McDaniel won the Southeast Limited Late Model Series (SLLMS) Season Finale on Sunday afternoon by passing Tyler Church with eight-laps remaining in the 100-lap Limited Late Model race that was apart of the Myrtle Beach 400 weekend.
The weekend officially got underway for the SLLMS on saturday afternoon when a season-high 47 cars pulled onto pit road to attempt to qualify for Sunday's Season Finale. 36 cars qualified into the field based on time, with four additional positions filled through a heat-race that ran on saturday afternoon and two final cars were added through provisionals. A grand total of 42 cars would take the green flag for the riderwholesale.com 150 Limited Late Model race on Sunday afternoon.
The no. 08 John Whaley won the pole for Sunday's race at the .538-mile nascar sanctioned short-track of Myrtle Beach speedway. On top of sitting in the birds-eye seat for Sunday's race and leading the field to green, Whaley also took home the $150 pole award presented by Goodyear. Jesse Little qualified on the outside-pole, Tyler Church qualified in the third position, fourth postion went to Austin McDaniel and Sammy Jasper rounded out the top-five qualifiers for Sunday afternoon's event.
The pole-sitter, Whaley, led the field to green, but the first caution of the afternoon quickly fell over the field bunching the field back up. When the race re-started, Whaley led the first 24-laps of the event but would eventually reliquish his lead on lap 24 to the no. 07 of Tyler Church. Church led from laps 24-92, a race-high of 68 laps, before losing the lead to race winner McDaniel on lap 93. Lap-leader Church went on to finish the race in second, Sammy Jasper came across the line in third place, fourth went to Michael Elliot and rounding out the top five was Jesse Little. Pole winner Whaley would bring his car home solidly inside the top-10 and finish in the ninth position to finish out the season.
The race winner, McDaniel, started in the fourth position when the green flag fell at the start of the race. McDaniel took the lead from Church on lap 93 and would go on to lead the final eight-laps and take home the checkered flag in the SLLMS for the second time this season. McDaniel also won the SLLMS event at Hickory Motor Speedway on October 16. In his first win, McDaniel won the pole and led all 100-laps in the Limited Late Model event in route to his first win in the series.

Tthere were great battles on the track and a record crowd in the stands. We also had our first repeat race winner in McDaniel and we were able to crown our first series champion in Chapman. We are thrilled with how the 2010 season progressed and are looking forward to visting Myrtle Beach speedway again in the 2011 season."
